Crossing the Red Sea

Proverbs 22:4

True humility and fear of the Lord
lead to riches, honor, and long life.

In this New Year I am facing many changes, as are most of you.  That’s what new beginnings bring, change, excitement, wonder, joy and a little fear and anxiety as to how it will happen.  That kind of worrisome fear does not come from the Lord and I am learning that a healthy fear of the LORD is a wonderful thing to walk into.  You have no idea where you are going…just that you are.  Kind of like the Israelites as they crossed the Red Sea.  They stood on the edge of the Sea and faced their biggest obstacles-their minds!  I can hear it now…“You want us to do what????”  Go through there???  But, but, but….”

Then they see their leader, Moses, take the staff that the LORD had given him, and raise it over his head in extreme obedience to the Lord.   I witnessed this last fall at a conference.  I watched a leader take a painting, like a staff,  and boldly raise it over his head as he marched up and down the aisles of the sanctuary declaring God’s Victory over us VISUALLY.  It was a powerful and defining moment for me.  Last week during church, I saw myself doing this.  I thought, “ What? You want me to do that ? Here?”

Today, I can only imagine, and maybe understand, a tiny little bit of what went through Moses’ mind!

“ Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through on dry ground.”   ( Ex. 14:15)

As Moses raised the staff in obedience to his Lord,  he was declaring that YES this would happen and YES they would cross and YES that the LORD has spoken!  He was declaring life, light and victory as he raised it in faith!

The waters parted…and the people began their crossing…an entire nation of people were saved from their enemies.

My friends, this is where I am. The waters have parted and now I must make the crossing into a new adventure with the Lord.  It is one that I saw a very long time ago, yet didn’t realize what I was seeing until last year.  God plants the seeds and waters them.  Some take longer to push through the soil than others.   Last year He gave me the vision for my life.  This year He is inviting me to walk closer with Him and trust Him for every provision.

I’ve never been in this place and it is a little intimidating and overwhelming.  Like Moses knew what he had to do, so do I.  Now I have to ask for and receive the strength of the Lord and do it.  Don’t waver or wander.    The waters are piled up and the path is dry and clear.  The Spirit of the Lord has blown through this place and He calls to me in the night hours to “come”….to cross…to make this journey with Him…He is my Light and Life, the Author of my salvation, and the Creator of my craft.  His Name is written on my heart and His brush lays down a path of righteousness and justice for all people.  He is the color of my heart and the light in my eyes and the earth under my feet.  Where He is, I am.  Where I am, He is. I am His voice and visual for the nations and I will speak and paint what He gives me to say through shape, color, line, light, texture and Truth.

Passionate? Yes. Easy?  No.  Like a Pastor speaks his love for the flock from the pulpit.  I speak mine from the canvas of the heart of the Lord.  It’s the same love, the same Lord, the same Truth.  It’s just delivered in a different way.  A way that helps other see through the darkness of the forest floor.  Where we think we see no life or light, there IS.

This passion is also a burden.  The Spirit of the Lord wakes me in the early morning hours and bids me to come and and pray, to draw, to write, to listen.  It is a burden of love and it is one that I am compelled to do.  If I don’t, I will bust.  I have been questioned, mocked, made fun of and misunderstood. I have also been set apart from distractions and while it has taken me time and much inner healing to understand many of these things,  I am compelled more than ever to move forward with the Lord.  Like the Israelites saw the light in pillar of cloud, I see it too and when you see it you have to share it!

In my time of reflection I see how what started, 3 years ago,  as simple blog has grown into a ministry of a wild love affair of the heart-to share the Lord with all of you through creativity.   It’s been like watching a tree grow and all of a sudden it feels like there is all of this new growth and the tree has become rounder, fuller, and filled with fruit.  Just as the LORD, my Master Gardener, cares for me, I must care for the tree.  Taking care of a tree requires wisdom, knowledge, preparation, pruning, prayer and diligence.

It also requires resting, listening, hearing, and doing everything exactly as the Lord orders.  This requires focus.  Moses went to a bush, Elijah went to cave and Jesus went to the wilderness to rest and speak to our Abba Papa.

Last week I stood in the woods near my home and I looked UP.  What I saw there were long legged pine trees standing like sentries.  I noticed how the light came through the branches and where it fell on the frozen ground.  As I looked into the light on the ground I saw things there that I didn’t in the darkness.  Life.  As I looked up at the trees I noticed how many branches were dead and how the dead branches blocked the light from ever hitting the ground.  It reminded me of the pain, loss, death and destruction of humanity that comes through the temptations of the enemy in the world.  I looked at the trees and I saw what the loss of light does to them.  It depletes their ability to produce life.  They must be pruned.

 John 10:10 tells us that the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. For some, the enemy has stolen their light and they cannot find their way because they cannot see the ground under their feet.  As a living flame for the Lord, I have been called to light the path for all people, not just some, but for ALL.  I have been called to paint the Glory of the Lord and speak the truth in love and to shine wherever I go.  To BE the light.  Everyday when I drop our daughter off at school my last words are these, “ Have a great day, I love you and be the light!”  I want her to remember that she is a beacon of hope wherever she goes.

She carries Jesus with her. She is a vessel filled with His Glory.  I carry Him too. He is deep in my heart and He comes out of my hands onto the canvas.  This is what I am called to do-Create for my King.  As long as there is dust on this earth and spittle in my mouth…I will create for Him using these hands that were fearfully and wonderfully made for His plans and purpose. In His image I was created.  These are His hands, not my own.  They carry His healing and His Name. They are His voice.

Sometimes my blogs ramble and I’ve been critiqued about my style of writing and my art.  I don’t apologize for those things because they are who I am.  HIS.   I am not here to please the critics or the naysayer’s, but to please the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY.

He is my strength and my song.

Exodus 15:1-3

“I will sing to the Lord,
for he has triumphed gloriously;
he has hurled both horse and rider
into the sea.
2 The Lord is my strength and my song;
he has given me victory.
This is my God, and I will praise him—
my father’s God, and I will exalt him!
3 The Lord is a warrior;
Yahweh is his name!

I will sing of His love and create in His Name all the day long!

Glory to God in the highest!

As I step forward, I thank you for caring, for reading, for encouraging and for lifting me up as I come to your mind.  Each of YOU has helped me along the way and I just want you to know how much the LORD loves YOU ( and me too!)  He is forever faithful.  When you hear Him calling your name…answer with this…” here I am Lord, your servant is listening…”

Then listen…

Many blessings,
