I haven’t been here in a few days!  It’s been a busy week and about to get busier!

I have a lot on my mind these days- graduation, baptisms, the family of faith at Glenwood UMC  and our last two months together and then summer!  We will be meeting our grandson for the first time and spending much needed time with our family!  So, my prayers have been many.  While I have not been blogging this week- I have been in the studio!

I finished this today.  Hubby looked at it and he said, “ wet!”

My response:

“ Yes, dear,my prayers have been wet with tears.”

Deep has been calling to deep and my guess is that this is the inside of my heart somewhere.  It just sort of flows out.  I was listening to some watery music and this verse came to mind:

John 3: 5-8

5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.(H) 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit.(I) 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

So, I’ve been thinking about the pregnant womb and giving birth.  Every spring the earth regenerates and gives birth to new things.  These new things, like plants and trees, push themselves up and out of the soil.  They stretch and groan to reach the very thing that will sustain them- the air, the sun, & the water.

Isn’t it funny?  When you think about it- we are like the plant pushing up and giving birth.  We stretch and groan to reach our Creator.    We are filled with the breath of God, fueled by the Son of God,  and His Living Water flows from deep inside of us.  He IS the Sustainer and Giver of Life.  He births new things in us and through us-ideas, music, poetry, inventions, paintings, books, compassion, mercy, love, and grace.  ( to name just a few.)

In order for our birthing process to go smoothly we must take care of ourselves by “eating” the right food ( God’s Word), resting ( in Him) , and listening and obeying to what we hear Him saying to us.  ( Not the world- but Him!)    This is why I paint.  To hear.  Painting allows me to tune in and communicate with the Creator.   It cannot be put into words, but it can be put into a picture.  So what you see here are my prayers, tears, thoughts, concerns and cares on the canvas.  They are many layered, deep and multicolored.  This brings me to a very personal question for you….what do yours look like?

Have you considered writing them out and then laying paint over them?

In the privacy of your home,  let me encourage you to find a peaceful place, take some time out and just listen for God and create something.  Let it go and let it flow.  Paint, write, knit, cook, whatever it is that you do- DO it!

God’s voice is often like a whisper waiting to be heard and acknowledged.  May you take the time to spend with Him and just BE STILL tonight.

Let God birth something new inside of you…
