Art day at Rural Retreat

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to go to Marvin UMC in Rural Retreat and teach these kids how to see and hear Jesus and create beautiful art for Him!

Every person is a minister of the gospel and the gospel is not contained to being shared by a limited number of people.  ALL people carry God with them but not all people are aware that they do.

One of the things I love to do is teach kids how to see God and share Him!

These kids got it right away.  They are open and willing vessels.  They were eager to embrace and learn something new to help them share Jesus with people.

Every picture tells a story- just like every life.  Even the adults got in on the fun!  Grandpa Dennis shared what he was seeing as I read the creation story…then he painted it!   Some of the ladies got in on the painting I had started and the kids had the most fun of all…or maybe it was Pastor Lynn watching her flock come together to create for Jesus….

What an awesome day of creating and worshipping the God of the Universe!

I look forward to what God is going to do through the hands and hearts of each child and adult.  I know that Pastor Lynn has some special things planned and that there is much more to come as we minister to our communities through art!

Thank you Lord for leading, guiding and providing!

Miracle Made

I have some amazing musician friends who are in a band called “Miracle Made.”

Last night I was humbled to worship with them through music and art.  The night went by way too fast and I am ready to do it again soon!

The music that God has given them is filled with the Holy Spirit and leads us right to the Father Heart of God.  Last night I felt like God was pressing into my being and saying, ‘ this is a taste of what is to come…there’s more…so much more….”  I heard it through the Word of God, the music, the testimony of the people there and the prayers.

Oh the prayers….God  wants us to be consumed by HIM.

Isaiah 61:1

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me,
for the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted
and to proclaim that captives will be released
and prisoners will be freed.

He is pouring out on His people and He wants us to get up, be excited and do the work that he has given us to do-to LOVE each other in that  supernatural, unexplainable way that only God can do.  My friends sing about this love…and I am honored that they prayed over and felt led by the HS to use a piece of art from my portfolio for their CD cover.

Miracle Made cdmiracle made cd cover

GOD longs for His people to be FREE….and together, Miracle Made and I will spend our lives setting people free through the telling of God’s love in music and art.

Thank you Lord.

Worship through art with kids!

Last night I was honored to be able to worship with children of all ages through art, music and flagging!  It was a special event- a birthday celebration for an 80 year young friend!

We met at Fountain of Life church in Mount Airy and the band “ Miracle Made” led in worship.

The kids were excited and their parents had brought their painting/drawing easels from home and we were all lined up along the stage.  I felt like I was in heaven with these kids!  Some of them I had never met.  We gathered together to talk about painting for Jesus and then we did the whole team shout with our hands in a circle, shouting, “ paint for Jesus!”   There were about 10 kids of all ages.

The music began and we started to create.

On this yellow and red piece I started out holding one of the littlest ones and we danced together with the brush on the canvas.  It was so natural and freeing.  Her little brother came in after she was done and added the red.  He started with flames-there were 6 of them.  Then he connected them all by adding the heart.  At the bottom of the painting it looks like an anchor to me with the Holy Spirit at the top in the shape of a dove.  Ever since I can remember I have always been able to “see” things in shapes and color.  This little boy can too.  I asked him if he was feeling the Holy Spirit and he said, “ yes.”

I was feeling led to wave a flag over the children while they created.  I have never done that in public before and it just felt so natural.  I waved over and around them while they were painting and I was praying too.   I was swept away in the motion and the music of the moment.

Each child made their own creations.  All I did was guide them, help them with the paint and encourage them.  It was a time of worship.

There were many easels and we used markers, paint and crayons.

All the children worked on this one-HS inspired.

3 crosses on the earth with a sun, blood and nail holes.

They know who Jesus is and what He did for them.

This was paper rolled out on the floor for some of the smaller kids.

I see hearts, crosses and colors galore!

‘I love Jesus” by Logan

I saw this several times…

A cross with a heart and wings.

This is hard to read but it says,

“ GOD IS HEAR”….yes….hear….they were hearing from God….

And then there’s this one…

Done by one boy during the whole service.  He sat and worked on this for 2 hours.  He just let it flow.

“ God will save you!”

“The Seeing eyes”

“ The flesh”

“The healing hands”

“The blood”

The colors, the love, the life…..

(My heart is full and over flowing…)

Now this…is worship.

Father, God I praise you and thank you for all you are doing, have done and will do.  I ask your blessings over these children and ask that you pour out your creativity in them throughout the weeks to come.  I ask that you give them dreams and visions of you and that they will create for you and about you to share with other people.  I thank you for parents and children who “color outside the lines” of life and inside the confines of YOUR HEART.  You ARE the seal over our hearts and we praise you, adore you and lift up your Name in all that we do.” Amen

I woke up this morning thinking…

“ These kids are my team and we will create for God and help change our part of the world for Christ through art.  We WERE BORN TO CREATE.”  Thank you GOD!

Iowa, hearts and the passion heart of God

My friend, Melanie, has invited me to come to her home in Iowa so I can rest and paint.  I love that idea and it is on my “to do” list.   I also find it slightly amusing because right now I can’t stop painting! LOL  I may need to go to Iowa to just rest.  I’m not tired though and it is amazing at the creativity that is flowing out of me.  It seems as though I wake everyday now with 3 or 4 ideas to paint.  Most mornings I wake up and my head is filled with music and pictures of things to paint.  It’s like I am being prepared for something …I feel it coming, but I don’t know what or where or when.

I have never felt this much creativity in my life and it is AWESOME!

Thank you Lord!

As you can see, as we go through Passion week-my mind is on the heart of God.

He GAVE His Son to REDEEM us.  We have been bought by His blood, purchased by His very life blood.  It is this blood that gives US LIFE when we accept Him as our Lord and everlasting Savior.  Love came down and rescued us.  He is our HOPE. Our FUTURE. The Lover of our souls.

John 3:16

For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

When we accept Christ and we follow His leading and loving guidance ( doing what He says)- He gives us new life.  He shines us up and makes us whole again.  Rivers of Living Water flow from those who believe.  His promises are true and everlasting and they bring life, light and hope.  Those are the things that encourage and excite us to keep going!  Fruit!

When we live a Romans 12 life, by the power of the Holy Spirit, it causes us to fall deeper and deeper into our Father’ heart until we are consumed by His desires and we forget our own.

Two become one.  A covenant.  A marriage.

Romans 12:1-2

Brothers and sisters, in view of all we have just shared about God’s compassion, I encourage you to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, dedicated to God and pleasing to him. This kind of worship is appropriate for you. 2 Don’t become like the people of this world. Instead, change the way you think. Then you will always be able to determine what God really wants—what is good, pleasing, and perfect.

Good, pleasing and perfect- Father God….Daddy, Papa…

That’s my Daddy alright…

we all want to be like our Daddy don’t we?

Heavenly love came down and rescued me….

I have no idea where God is taking me….just that He is.  He has captured me, caught me and overwhelmed me by His Presence.   He is always at work in us-even thought we aren’t always able to see it right away- He is.   I have never felt so free in my life.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths smooth.

It takes a lot to trust, but first you have to know WHO God is and WHO you are In HIM.   Practice makes perfect.  ( and aren’t we blessed that we get to practice our whole earthly lives so we can be perfect in heaven! AMEN!)   With each lesson and each step-you learn a little more about yourself and God IN you and you draw nearer and nearer until you are drenched in His love.

Your vision clears, your hearing improves and your faith increases for the next page of the journey…

Thank you, Lord, you are my all in all and I want nothing more than to spend every moment with you, walking, living, sleeping, eating, worshipping, praying, serving YOU to the least, the lost and the lonely.

I am completely yours….

( and melanie…thank you …………as our friend Frank says, “ Isn’t Daddy good?”  Smile)

Amen to THAT!

Easter Sunday

It’s passion week.

As a lover of God, my heart aches for His,  and I know many others do too.  I have to constantly remember that I can’t save people- only God can.  My job is to present the Truth.  I long to open hearts and pour God inside, but that’s not my job either.  I have to remember that I’m also not perfect and that God is working on me too.  I have to remember where I came from and where I am heading to and that we are all on the same road together.  Some are ahead and some are beside us and others are behind us.  We carry the cross together.

John 19:30  “It is finished!”

This is a week of reflection and grief over what our Lord suffered so that we might LVE!  It is a week we should not take lightly and we should  pray and grieve and seek those who cannot hear the voice of the One who longs to call them “HIS.”

We should live and love and be and do the things of God.  Serve mercy, offer grace and love beyond measure.

We should re-commit our lives to follow the Living God with all of our being even if it means dying to self and putting on a new life.  It’s what we are called to do.  It’s never easy to die to self, but necessary.  Look what Jesus did.

Galatians 2:20  I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.

No one wants to stay the same, do they?  I don’t know, maybe they do, but I know I don’t.

When we change, over time, we become more like Christ.  One day we won’t have to go through the trials of life any longer and we can sit at the feet of the One who LIVES for US and just rest in HIS PRESENCE.

This painting is about peace, promise and life.  It has all the colors of the rainbow, the heart of God and the key to the Kingdom.  (the key is coming soon)  The living waters of flow furious, fast and full around the cross.  You better hang on-you might get swept away!  LOL

I wanted to do something different and this is different.  I like doing pieces of things to keep people guessing and interested.  I used copper paint on the cross and burnished it with some brass.  ( which spilled on the floor and now I have a nice stain that will probably never come out…LOL argh! )

The water was the best the part to do and it was very soothing for me to paint.  Once I get in a rhythm with it-it’s hard to stop.  It has several layers with indigo underneath.

Take me away…

I love listening to Graham Cooke and this is what he says:

“God, through Christ, has opened the way for all mankind to know Him. So from His perspective everybody is reconciled in Christ. What that means is God does not hold anything against anyone. They’re all reconciled. Does that mean they are redeemed? No. Our job as ministers of reconciliation is to go into people’s lives, no matter who it is, and say the way is open for you. God’s not angry with you. He’s not mad at you. We are here as ambassadors of Heaven in the Earth saying this is what Heaven looks like. This is what salvation looks like. This is what being with God looks like. This is what it means to be loved by God.”

Enter in….

…from my friend Star….

it looks like stained glass, the purpose of stained glass is to tell a story, and the story I see here is that when a heart is unlocked, the river of God flows forth and overtakes everything around.

Thank you Lord, for unlocking hearts! Amen!

Discover the Water

Today I was part of a women’s event at Randolph UMC in Pulaski with Rev. Sharon Bowers.  Sharon and I met a few years back and became fast friends.  I have always admired her and she has inspired me to follow God  and to believe the plan He has for me.  She is a mighty prayer warrior, an encourager, and a woman who has fire in her feet for the Lord.

Sharon's church

My friend, Carol and I were both speakers and we were the “salt” in the “pepper.”  We were the only two white women in the room and I felt like we had been welcomed “home.”   The love and hospitality were overwhelming!  Little did we know the blessing we were about to receive!

There was a room full of women saying “Amen, Hallelujah and Praise the Lord.”  Audience participation was at the maximum level and that made it all the more fun and exciting!  It was a blessing to be a part of this wonderful event!

The theme for the event was all about water. It was called ,  “ Discover the Water” based on the woman at the well.  I spoke to John 7:37-39.  Rivers of Living water!  I am a water worshipper and my art clearly says, “ water.”  LOL

When I was baptized in the Holy Spirit last year I felt a filling up from my toes all the way to ends of my hair!  It felt like rivers of living water were flowing from heaven into me and they were!  I haven’t been the same since- GLORY to GOD!  It’s no wonder I can’t stop painting things with the living water in them!  haha!

Sharon did not ask me to do this and I was led by the Spirit of the LIVING God to create a piece of art for this event. I call it “come to the water.” This is what happens to me…I study God’s Word, hear a song or see something and I get an idea and I sketch it out-sometimes it’s a scribble and sometimes it’s very detailed. As I was preparing for this, an idea began forming so I began to paint. What you see here is a tree filled with heart shaped blossoms and leaves. In the middle of the tree is a waterfall with a pool at the bottom. What you think you see is really not what you see at all. What we see in the earthly realm is not what is in the spirit realm, is it? You see, that’s how God is. Invisible, yet very much alive. And doesn’t it take other people to show us the invisible God-to help us see the Living God that is right before our eyes? My motto is this: To make the invisible God visible through art.

Here is what you really see in the painting.

All of the hearts are each of you. Pink, blue, purple, red, yellow, orange. All colors, all shapes and sizes. I would say this represents us pretty well-wouldn’t you? Jesus invites ALL who are thirsty to come to him and DRINK. In the tree we are leaning on each other, as sisters do, and we are holding each other up, as mothers do, and we are lifting each other up as the body of Christ does. Our hearts are vibrant and full of life-the Spirit of the Living God dwells inside of us. Amen! Our leaves are green and our lives are filled with the beautiful details of God. We are princesses and daughters of the Most High God and we walk in royalty! Our clothes are clean and shining because of what Christ has done for us. He has washed us anew with His living, breathing, refreshing waters of life! They spill from the depths of who we are! He is most gracious and kind. Our hearts are filled to overflowing with His abundant love.

In the middle you see a heart with a waterfall coming from it. This is the Father’s heart spilling over into yours. The waterfall is frothy and bubbly and it has overtaken you- picture the little red heart that is bobbing in the water as yourself. You are consumed, but not drowned. You are overtaken, revived, refreshed and renewed. You come to the water and leave your afflictions behind. It is the affliction that BRINGS you to the water in the first place. God is always working out the goodness in everything. There are other people in the water with you-floating downstream. The flowers along the side of the river are your encouragers-your friends, your sisters, your mothers, your daughters. We need each other to get to the water, don’t we?

And what about those details? God says we are His beloved. We are fearfully and wonderfully made and that he knows the plans he has for us even when we don’t understand them. He tells us to walk by faith and not by sight and to trust in HIM with all of mind, soul, strength and to lean not on our own understanding. When we try to figure it out and do things on our own-then we do it without Him. That’s never His plan. He leads us beside still waters, He leads us through the seas of life, and He crosses the Jordan ahead of us. He is always there. Where we are- He is for it is HE who dwells in us.

When I was painting the details onto this I took it off the easel and I laid it on the table to work on it easier. As I was laying over it, paintbrush in hand and tears in my eyes, I saw myself in the water, taking a big deep drink. Then I recalled the scripture in 1 Kings where Elijah was with the widow and her son died.

Give me your son.” And he took the child’s body from her arms, carried him up the stairs to the room where he was staying, and laid the body on his bed. 20 Then Elijah cried out to the Lord, “O Lord my God, why have you brought tragedy to this widow who has opened her home to me, causing her son to die?”21 And he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the Lord, “O Lord my God, please let this child’s life return to him.” 22 The Lord heard Elijah’s prayer, and the life of the child returned, and he revived! 23 Then Elijah brought him down from the upper room and gave him to his mother. “Look!” he said. “Your son is alive!24 Then the woman told Elijah, “Now I know for sure that you are a man of God, and that the Lord truly speaks through you.”

Elijah took the boys body to his own room and then he laid himself over the boy three times and he asked for God to return the life to the child. He asked in total submission, surrender and faith. As I recalled these words I thought about how I was laying over the artwork, crying and praying and praising God for all that he was showing me through it and I knew that someone here today needed to hear that God brings dead things back to life. Someone needs to hear that they have been stretched over and prayed for and someone needs to hear that they truly are alive inside when they come to the water and take a drink of the most precious , living, running, moving water that can be found on earth and in heaven.

Will you come? Will you come and take a deep, long drink from the Lord of the Living Water?

Thank you Randolph UMC and Rev. Sharon Bowers….you are in my prayers…God is pouring His blessings over you in abundance…

Such FB FUN!

Hi!  I met Maxine on FB when I saw some of her gorgeous mixed media art pieces.  I just love her work!  She makes each piece unique- which is what captured my heart-and she makes a lot of crosses-and we all know I love crosses!

Well, earlier in the week, we gave each other a verse to be creative with.

I gave her

Zephaniah 3:17

“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

When I saw what she did- I realized that it was Corynn.  I believe this is a prophetic piece over my daughter’s life.  She sings for the Lord and she is on her way to the life of a missionary.  Her favorite verse is “love never fails.”  Some of the words on the heart are “His love will endure….”  I can’t read it all…

Corynn’s hair is long and curly and she has a heart for God.  God’s love never fails and I am so thankful that He sent this message to us through Maxine and her obedient heart.  WOW!

God’s timing is always perfect and always on time!  Smile

Proverbs 3:18

Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
happy are those who hold her tightly.

OWL tree

This is the piece I did to the verse she gave me.

Owls= wisdom.  The person is clinging to the tree-which is always represents Jesus in my paintings.  The tree is purple because we walk in royalty.  Wisdom lies within the branches ( the Word) of our Savior and when we take in wisdom we produce fruit and we live and move and have our being in the Spirit.  ( the Living Water.)

Quirky? Yep!  Fun? Yep!

It was led by God, just as Maxine’s was.  It started out different and then changed to the owl and once I started- it just flowed.  That’s how God works.  Go with the flow!

Two artist’s called by God to reach the world for Him.  What a blessing it is to come together and celebrate God’s Word through creativity!  Thank you Lord!!!  d.

God has been speaking to me about wisdom this week too…go figure!

Wisdom is a treasure….there may be a new painting on the way….

Proverbs 2:1-8

My child,[a] listen to what I say,
and treasure my commands.
2 Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on understanding.
3 Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
4 Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures.
5 Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord grants wisdom!
From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
8 He guards the paths of the just
and protects those who are faithful to him.

Come to the water….

Today’s work.  I am preparing for an event and this is a piece that I will be speaking about, I can’t share it all right now but here is a little bit….

This piece is  called “ Come to the Water…”

The tree is standing IN the water.  The water represents the Life we have in Christ.  All the heart shaped flowers represent people.  Each one is unique, yet the same. All leaning into each other, resting on each other and lifting each other up.  This is what the body of Christ does for one another.

Slurp, slurp, slurp.  Can’t get enough to drink!

The water falls are bubbling and spewing and that little red heart in the water fall is YOU!  You have fallen in, but will not drown.  You will bob up and down and take deep gulps of water and you will LIVE!  You will be saturated IN God’s love!  There are others who have joined you-the purple, the red and the yellow down stream.  There are onlookers on shore and they are your encouragers and prayer warriors.

The little piece of paper in the corner says: “come to the water….”

Will you?

Jump in and don’t look back!

John 7:37-38

“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from the heart of anyone who believes in me.’”

The Wisdom Tree

This was a fun little challenge from a friend.  She sent me Proverbs 3:18 to create a piece from.  I am really liking painting on these smaller canvasses.  I can get an idea out in no time.  This is the second painting for the day.  Thank you Lord for the creativity you are giving the eyes of my heart.  I wonder what my artist friend has done with the verse I gave her?

Zephaniah 3:17.

I can’t wait to see it!

OWL tree

Proverbs 3:18

Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
happy are those who hold her tightly.

Fun! Fun! Fun!

It is an honor to be able to share God’s Word creatively-using colors that represent LIFE and LIGHT!  Thank you Lord, for the paints, the canvas, the brushes and the time to be able to create for YOU.  It is a blessing!  Amen!

I think my cartooning came out full force…LOL
