Get the Word out!

It’s been a week of many changes and all have been hard, but very great!  The season of Lent prepares us for Easter.  I am reminded of the scripture, “Create in me a clean heart, O Lord…”

Psalm 51:10

10Create a clean heart in me, O God,
and renew a faithful spirit within me.
11Do not force me away from your presence,
and do not take your Holy Spirit from me.
12Restore the joy of your salvation to me,
and provide me with a spirit of willing obedience.

We cannot have cleansing without willingness.   We cannot be cleansed without prayer.  This scripture points us to both.   When we do these things, no matter how hard they are or how much of a sacrifice they FEEL like-they can never outweigh what Jesus did for us.  EVER.

Our unwillingness ( stubbornness)  keeps us away from God.  Together, they breed sinful habits and they need each other to survive in our lives.  But we don’t need them.  We can pray this scripture and ask God to renew us-to set us upright again, to fill us with His joy and peace in knowing where our heart home is.    When we do our part, God will be faithful to do His.  He will walk with us wherever we are, offering help and encouragement along the way.

Today I had a checkup at the Dr. and in our conversation he was explaining the benefits of taking supplements to me.  He has an evident  passion for healthy living and he is very educated on the subject.  He said something to me that made me think and I haven’t been able to get it out of my mind all day.   He said that vitamins do so much FOR us and WHY WASN’T THE MESSAGE GETTING OUT?

So that made me think about how we love to eat and do the stuff that is bad for us and when it makes us sick or over weight, we go to the Dr., get a pill and life goes on.  But sometimes life doesn’t go on.  Sometimes we die.  Strokes, heart attacks, diabetes and the list can go on forever.  Most of it we do to ourselves and if we would just stop and think and PRAY to GOD to help us to stop, then we could.  Easy?  No.  Worth it?  Yep.

Our bad habits ( sin) are killing us.  They are clogging our veins, messing with our enzymes, depressing our system, polluting our lungs and giving us heart attacks.  They also keeping us from God.  God wants us to live a life of abundance.  A life that is filled with Him, not with what the world sells.  Dave Ramsey says we pay for convenience and he is right.  We pay for it in so many ways that we don’t even see it anymore.  We become numb to it.  Deaf, Blind, Dead. Dumb.  What is convenience?  Anything that is easy, that’s what.  It’s easier to go to the drive thru than it is to go home and prepare a real meal.  We pay for that in two ways- it comes out of our wallet and in our health.  Convenience is using a credit card to buy something with money you don’t have.  That is stealing from your future.  Not only yours, but God’s.  God doesn’t need our money-but people in need do and God’s Word says we are to help the least, the lost, the lonely and the last.  The hungry, the homeless, the widow, the prisoner.  When we use our money and other things in foolish ways we are only helping spread the word of convenience and commercialism.

The message we are to be spreading is the GOOD NEWS of CHRIST.   How do we do that?  By living a life that is holy and pleasing to God.  By making a stand for the things of GOD and not of the world.   By feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless and visiting the imprisoned.  By sharing your God story with the lost.  We live in an age where we can easily share the gospel all over the world.  If we use our technology for GOD we can do just that.  Don’t let it use you.   Put a note on your monitor that says this:  “ IS IT HOLY?”  Then make a promise to God to keep whatever you put out there holy.

THAT’S the message we should be getting out.  The message of GOD.

I am happy to say that after making a few lifestyle changes since Ash Wednesday, my health has improved.  No, I’m not saying it’s easy and for me it is a lifetime battle of choosing between what I want and what God wants.  It’s all right there in the Good book.  We just need to get down and get mad and get the soap and water out to clean ourselves up.  We need to  get right with God and get cleaned up and when we do- look out!    We must enter into everything we do with prayer.  We must pray for strength to get through the hard stuff, for endurance to go the distance,  for the wisdom to know how to do it, for grace when we fail ( because we always do at one time or another-after all we are human) , for the discipline to get up and get going again and most of all for willingness.  We can’t do any of it without a willing heart.   We have to bendable and moldable like clay.  God is the potter, we are the clay.  He wants to mold us into usable, beautiful vessels that are filled with life and light.

John 14:6

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through me. 7If you have known me, you will also know my Father. From now on you know him through me and have seen him in me.”

How is your spiritual health?  Do you need a check up?  Now’s the time to do it.  Don’t wait because as someone said to me today, “we never know when our last breath will be” and I want my last breath to be calling out the name of Christ.

Because He is my first and true love and because of the choice I have made , to believe in Him with every ounce of my being, I will be able to see Him as I run into his outstretched armsready to carry me Home….and I wait with expectancy.

THAT’S the message folks.
