Doom and Gloom or Grace and Peace?

We have been studying Kings in our Bethel class.  If you’ve never studied the Kings and the Prophets-be prepared to read about a land that is filled with a plague called EVIL.  It is hard to read and will make your soul weep.  It will also bring you to your knees in repentance for your own sins.  It has given me a new perspective of how God grieves for us. Yes, US!    Think about it, he gave us everything we could ever possibly need and we didn’t have to do anything to get it.  Sin crept in and brought the curse upon the world and humanity.  Even creation is cursed.  It groans with pangs of death and decay-just as we do when we near the end of our life.  Look at what is going on in the world today.  Earthquakes, monsoons, wars, hurricanes, tornados, snowstorms, flooding, hatred, confusion, chaos and the list goes on and on.  These are all symptoms of the curse.  I see decay and destruction everywhere I look.  I don’t buy the newspaper because I can’t stand reading about all of the things that are wrong with the world.  I don’t listen to the news very much for the same reasons.  Am I hiding my head in the sand?  No, just waiting.  I can’t do anything about it- only God can do that.

The scriptures affirmed that this morning in

Amos 5: 13-14

13 Therefore the prudent keep quiet in such times, for the times are evil.  14 Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.

We are to be cautious and seek to do good and not evil.  It is when we do good that we will live.  Amos was a farmer and a shepherd.  God sent him to announce His judgment on the northern kingdoms.   Uzziah was King of Judah and Jeroboam 2 was King of Israel.  The kingdoms were in prosperity at the time and so was the evil.  Amos was the messenger of the day.  Amos was not shy or timid.  He was bold and to the point.  He calls attention to the wickedness and then he calls the people to lament and repent.  Do they?  Read it and find out!

As I was reading I thought, “ugh, more doom and gloom, I can’t stand it anymore.  BUT! Oh! How must God feel when he looks down on His creation everyday?  Shame on me.  Keep reading Donna, there is something better coming and it’s called heaven.   God is showing you things so you can show people the glory of His grace.”

The last 6 verses in Amos is about restoration.    Read it and rejoice!

Amos 9:13-15

13 “The days are coming,” declares the LORD,“when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman and the planter by the one treading grapes. New wine will drip from the mountains and flow from all the hills, 14 and I will bring my people Israel back from exile. “They will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them. They will plant vineyards and drink their wine; they will make gardens and eat their fruit. 15 I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them,” says the LORD your God.

Do you see the PROMISE there?  The days ARE ARE ARE coming DECLARES the LORD!   There will be new wine dripping and flowing from the hills and I WILL WILL bring my people BACK from exile!  A promise from God.  They WILL rebuild, they WILL plant, they WILL make gardens and eat.

This verse reminds me of the promise of heaven.  I don’t know what heaven looks like or what it will be like, but from the scriptures I am reading I cannot wait to get there!   Here are some scriptures that remind me of heaven.

Joel 3:17-18

17 “Then you will know that I, the LORD your God, dwell in Zion, my holy hill. Jerusalem will be holy; never again will foreigners invade her.18“In that day the mountains will drip new wine, and the hills will flow with milk; all the ravines of Judah will run with water. A fountain will flow out of the LORD’s house and will water the valley of acacias.

Psalm 46:4

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.

Revelation 21:1-7

1 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.

Psalm 36:7-9

7 How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8 They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. 9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.

Psalm 104: 1-5

1 Praise the LORD, my soul.LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.2 The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent 3 and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. 4 He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.5 He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.

Revelation 22:1-5

1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

So you see, no matter how much evil I read about or how it seems to invade my safe spots, it will never overtake me because my God is a God of GRACE and redemption.  Have you redeemed your ticket for eternal life yet?  If you haven’t, I encourage you to do so because time is running out.  All we have is the moment we are IN and that is right NOW.  Don’t wait.  God is calling you.

Listen to the Voice of Truth.

Majesty of God in horses

Drawing by Linda Huber

This morning I was reminded in the scriptures of why I love horses so much-this is God speaking to Job…it is a beautiful portrait of the strength of God created in a majestic animal and it reminds me of a dear friend who loves, loves, loves her horses.

I love the majesty, power and beauty of God!

This, my friend, reminds me of Comet.  I love you!

Job 39: 19-25

19 “Do you give the horse its strength
or clothe its neck with a flowing mane?
20 Do you make it leap like a locust,
striking terror with its proud snorting?
21 It paws fiercely, rejoicing in its strength,
and charges into the fray.
22 It laughs at fear, afraid of nothing;
it does not shy away from the sword.
23 The quiver rattles against its side,
along with the flashing spear and lance.
24 In frenzied excitement it eats up the ground;
it cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds.
25 At the blast of the trumpet it snorts, ‘Aha!’
It catches the scent of battle from afar,
the shout of commanders and the battle cry.

Heaven is for Real

Heaven Is For Real

I just finished the book Heaven IS for Real by Todd Burpo.  It is a true story about how his 4 year old son, Colton, had an emergency appendectomy and while in surgery- he went to heaven and met Jesus.  I read this book in record time.

We all have our own thoughts of heaven, things we think, things we have read, things we have been taught along the way.  Our true guide is the Bible.  It is so important that we each take the time to study God’s Word ourself.  God will speak to each of us through His Word when we are obedient in studying, listening and praying.  I have found this to be so true in my own journey.   Our time is well spent when it is spent in study with GOD.

As an artist myself I have a pretty vivid imagination of what I would like heaven to look like, but my heart tells me that it is going to be beyond my wildest imagination.  The most important message of this book is little Colton’s urgency for us to know that heaven IS real and Jesus resides there with God the Father and the Holy Spirit.   He loves us!   Colton wants all of us to know that we are loved by God and that we need to get our hearts right before it is too late.  The second message, for me, was that we are to have the faith of a child.  Unhampered by the world, pure, clean and connected to God’s heart.   As an almost 50 year old, I don’t know how to get back to that-but I am working on it through being with my own children and working with other kids.  They fascinate me!  They see things so clearly!  Just like little Colton.  Sometimes I wish I were a mini me and could crawl inside the brain of a 4 or 5 year old!  What an adventure that would be!  ha!ha!

This video is about a young girl who is mentioned in the book.  Watch it for yourself.  It is intriguing.  God still speaks to us today in many, many ways and forms.  I am so grateful that I serve a gracious, loving, forgiving and merciful God.  In my own studies I have been made painfully aware of the sins of this world and how they grieve God.  But even more than that is the GRACE of God.  Page after page of the bible is sin after sin after sin.  I also see patience, longsuffering, grace, forgiveness, love and a Father who yearns for His children to come home and crawl into his lap forever.  Have you made that choice today?  If you haven’t, I encourage you to talk to God right now.  There isn’t anything that you have done that cannot be forgiven.  All you have to do is ask.

Oh how he loves us….

The King’s Lament

The King’s Lament

by Donna Godwin

February 13, 2010

This is a fictitious dialogue written about a king who has landed in hell because of his disobedience.  It is between a king and his prophet.  Since I don’t know who is in heaven or hell, I will use fictitious names for the king and the prophet.  This was inspired by the scriptures of the Kings, and their evil ways, from 1 & 2 Kings.

As we enter into the story we are looking into hell, where there is sobbing, weeping and much gnashing of teeth.  The cries from the damned are heard in moans, screams of anguish and the pain of being separated from God.  It is a physical, emotional and spiritual weeping over their loss.  The mood is hopelessness and regret.

Enter in- the prophet.  He comes on the scene as an apparition speaking to the king.

Prophet- “ What’s the matter old man?”

King – “ My bones are brittle from this heat and my hand has withered and become useless.

I am tormented night and day by the demons of my past. “

Prophet- “ What demons might they be old man?”

King – “The demons of sin and disobedience.”

Prophet- “ What do you mean?  Tell me….”

( The old man wipes the sweat from his forehead.  It smells of sulfur and a low moaning can be heard in the distance.)

“ Don’t play games with me Prophet, you know the demons I speak of.  You remember quite well, when you were old I sent my wife to you about the illness of our son, ‘Abi.’  I sent her in disguise, you remember that don’t you?”

Prophet- “ Yes I remember it well.  I couldn’t see, but I knew she was coming because the Lord told me.”

( As the old man begins to speak a tooth falls out of his mouth from the rot and decay of sin.  He tries to spit it in his hand but it goes up in a puff of dust, causing him to cough and sputter as he speaks. )  “Yes, Prophet, the Lord sent you to tell me many things that I wouldn’t listen to, and like this rotten tooth, my kingdom became rotten and fell apart too.  It was my disobedience that landed me in this place…ohhhh…it is so hot in here….”( flames flicker all around)  “ There is no peace, no light and no hope.  Only hatred, chaos and turmoil.  Oh why, oh why didn’t I listen to you?  Can you help me get out of this place?  Why Prophet, I can’t even move, I’m chained to this spot and haven’t rested since I arrived.  Will I always be in this state of torture?  Will I always be in despair?  My skin has melted and my bones have become brittle and dry like the dust of Jerusalem where I worked as a young man. If I could only go back and change my evil ways, I would. All I have today are my memories of the past…and this incessant heat…and turmoil…will it ever stop ?  Please make it stop Prophet-I know you can!”

Prophet-  “ Do you remember my prophecy king?  DO YOU?  The Lord said, “ I raised you up from among the people and made a leader out of you, a leader OVER MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.  REMEMBER THAT?  Did you follow God you miserable king?  Or did you follow the Baals, Molech and Asherah?  Did you allow the whoring of your people and the killing of your children?  YES! YOU DID!  You did not follow in the footsteps of David but in the eyes of evil.  You did what you wanted.  You did what your ancestors did when there was no king at all-you did as you saw fit.  That’s NOT what God commanded of you!!!  You should’ve been like David.  What did David do you miserable king?  Do you remember?  Tell me…”

King – “ Oh prophet must you badger me so?  I am filled with woe and misery.  Why must you torment me with this memory?  Why……”

The old king closes his eyes and looks toward heaven as he speaks.  His body quivers and shakes with weeping and mourning as he recalls the faithfulness of David as well as his own unfaithfulness to God.

King- “ David?  Why must you ask me about David?  He did what the Lord asked of him.  He was obedient and he followed Gods commands with all his heart.  He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, not his own.  ( The king convulses with sobbing)

Why, oh why didn’t I listen when I had the chance?  I could’ve had it all.  God told me that if I did what he commanded he would build me a dynasty and give Israel to me.

( 1 Kings 11: 37-40)

( The king holds his head in despair and watches his hair fall to the ground)  “ Why, oh why didn’t I listen?  I could’ve had it all.  In stead I built golden calves for pagan worship at Bethel and Dan. I told the people to worship there instead of going to Jerusalem-it was too much trouble.  It just seemed easier to build a pagan god and live a life of disobedience.  I was foolish.  If I could return and tell of my fate then maybe people would do what God commanded.  Oh Prophet do you think I could return for just a little while?  Let me return to warn people of this eternal damnation that I am suffering in-Prophet….prophet…?  Where did you go?

He’s gone!  Just like my son and my kingdom.  The only good thing that God ever found in me was my son, Abijah.  Oh my son, where are you?  I know you are living in peace with the Lord because you are not here.  At least that was one good thing that came out of me-and that was you.  Oh my son, oh how I long to hold you in my arms again, to stroke your beautiful hair and hear your sweet voice.  I miss the pitter patter of your feet on the castle floor- I hear your giggles in my dreams at night.  Although it’s not often that I sleep-these damned flames lick at my memories night and day.  I think of you my son everyday and I’ll never, ever get to see you again. EVER. All I have now is eternal torment. It never stops.

( something moves with a thunk)

Oh my withered hand has tricked me again.  I should have listened when the Man of God came to me at the altar.  Oh why, oh why didn’t I?  I tried to have the man seized when suddenly my hand withered up and the altar split and its ashes spewed forth onto the ground around me.  Why couldn’t I see the error of my ways then?  It is so clear to me today.  I do nothing but think of it day and night, night and day-the EVIL I did in the eyes of the Lord.  All those people, all those babies…My wickedness torments me.  Why God even healed my hand back to a healthy state-one that I could use to do good with-but did I? NO!!!!  I never ever changed my evil ways, and those evil ways landed me here in this place….

Today, as I am chained to this place of eternal damnation my mouth is dry as dirt and my soul pants for God just as the deer pants for streams of water.  I am so thirsty for the Living God-just as Joshua said –GOD IS ALIVE!  He IS!  He is not a stone or an idol of bronze as I once thought.  He is alive and he is waiting for you.  I can see Him in the distant skies, but today I can’t reach Him.  He is gone…forever because I rejected him.

I beg of you …don’t follow in my footsteps-go in the direction of God.  For me…it is too late.  But it’s not for you.  Everyday I ask myself, “Where can I go to meet God?”  No where now.  It’s too late.  But it’s not too late for you.  Destroy your idols before they destroy you!  Then turn toward the Living God and run!  Run as fast as you can!  Catch him before you get caught in the lair of evil.  Why? Because as surely as I sit in the bondages of hell today, I know that He IS ALIVE and His Word is TRUE, ACTIVE and LIVING.  It is sharper than any sword I ever used…

just ask Ahab….he’s right here with me.

Using Your Gifts

Good Morning!

As some of you know, I spoke at HCC last Sunday.  Corynn and Caleb stepped out on faith and played and sang for the congregation there.  They used their God given gifts to share God’s love!  Some of you have asked what I spoke about so I decided to post my message here today.  I am so proud of our entire church family and their obedience to supporting us as we go out into the world and make disciples of all nations!  We truly DO that!  We each use our gifts uniquely!  Thank you Caleb and Corynn for being so willing to join me!  I am blessed to have you both in  my life!  d.

Using Your Gifts

Good Morning!

Thank you for allowing me to fill the pulpit this morning!  As most of you know I am your church secretary.

As I was preparing your newsletter a few weeks ago, I was also praying about what I should speak about today.  I wasn’t sure if I should draw to music or speak.  A friend of mine has told me that God gives us many gifts and that I had been hiding behind one of mine-drawing.  It is hard to draw and talk at the same time.  My drawings come from a deep well inside of me and only God & I know the fullness of their meanings.  My friend has encouraged me to quit hiding behind the drawing and start speaking about what God has put on my heart.  So, last week, as I was typing an article for the newsletter, God affirmed through that article what I was to speak about today.

Using our gifts.

Apostle Paul used his gift of writing to speak to us in Ephesians.  Here is the Word of God for the people of God:

Ephesians 2:8-10

God saved you through faith as an act of kindness. You had nothing to do with it. Being saved is a gift from God. 9It’s not the result of anything you’ve done, so no one can brag about it. 10God has made us what we are. He has created us in Christ Jesus to live lives filled with good works that he has prepared for us to do.

This morning I would like to focus on the last sentence in that verse.

10God has made us what we are. He has created us in Christ Jesus to live lives filled with good works that he has prepared for us to do.

We are God’s workmanship, a work of art.  Our design is painted on the canvas of God’s heart and only he knows the colors that are there.  Each color has a purpose, some bring light into the painting and some reveal shadows.  Some colors express joy and others sorrow.  All colors work together to bring out the message of the masterpiece. The masterpiece is not complete if one color is missing.  It’s like a song that is missing a note.  It sounds out of tune.  All pieces are important and each have their particular job to do.

Let’s think of creation for a moment- in the daytime sky we see the beauty of God’s handiwork in the colors of the sky, sun and clouds.  What we don’t see are the stars, moon and other planets.  We know they are there, yet we don’t think about them because they aren’t visible to us until evening.  When evening comes, and we look up at the stars, we are amazed at the beauty of God’s creation.  We see God’s handiwork in the stars.

Why am I telling you these things?  Because God wants you to know how important each and everyone of you are to Him.  Each one of you has a purpose, a gift, a talent.  When you use that gift for God you glorify HIM in all of the world.  God didn’t save us and then not give us a purpose!  He saved us so that we can spend our lives telling the world about Him.  This is our gift back to Him!How do we do this?  We use our God-given gifts and talents to serve the Lord in everything we do.

Let me give you an example.  I always understand things better when it is personal. We all knew and loved Jack McGrady dearly and we all know what a worker for Christ he was, and still is!  This building that we are sitting in has seen many repairs and improvements done by the hands of Jack McGrady.  Jack was a master carpenter and He loved the Lord with all of his heart, soul, mind and strength.  God gave Jack specific tools to use to do His work.  Not Jack’s work- but GOD’s work through Jack.  I have some of these tools here today.

These were Jack’s tools and he knew how to use them well.  Why?  Because God instilled that knowledge into Jack’s hands, head and heart. This is a plumb bob and the purpose of a plumb bob is to show that the building is vertical or straight up and down.  Plumb bobs have been used since Ancient Egypt and the building of the pyramids.  It reminds me that we should be in a straight line with God or “plumbed from our heart to His.”

This ruler helped Jack measure and cut wood precisely as the plan called for.  God’s plan is the same way.  Precise and accurate.

I am taking a course called the Bethel Bible Study series and in my studies I have been amazed at just how precise our God is.  Everything he says has been done.  It is the TRUTH and we all know that the TRUTH sets us free!  If you look back in Exodus 25:8-9 God is speaking to Moses on the top of Mount Sinai.  Here is what he says:  “ Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them.  Make this Tabernacle and all it’s furnishings EXACTLY like the pattern I WILL SHOW YOU.”

The next 6 chapters are the directions for the building of the Tabernacle.  Accurate, precise and very, very detailed.   Included are all it’s furnishings, curtains and priestly garments.    It also includes an important man named Bezalel.  I know you may be wondering who that was since we don’t hear of him often in scripture.  In fact, I had never heard of him until I began to study on how to use my own gifts for God.  In my studies I was excited to read in Exodus 31 that Bezalel was an artist!  Jewish scholars say he was 13 when God called him and filled him with the skills, ability and knowledge to build the Tabernacle.  I have also learned that he was from the tribe of Judah.  Who better than that to build God’s dwelling place?  God also gave Bezalel helpers.  These helpers had specific gifts and tools-just like Jack did.  They were all part of God’s plan to build His dwelling place.  Jeremiah 29:11 says, “ For I know the plans I have for you…”  and He does!

So, how does this relate to today?  Well, here we are in God’s house and each of us have been uniquely designed by God to do a specific job. No one is left out and everyone is necessary.   I know that my brain tries to tell me that I’m not needed, but in my heart I know that God has a purpose for my life.  I was talking to a friend the other day and you know it’s funny how God works things out.  She shared her story of having had a stroke at a young age, she was paralyzed and couldn’t talk at all.  When she went to the ER the Dr. told her this:  “God has a purpose for your life.”   Today, this woman is vibrant, active and a speaker for Christ.  This woman is Susan Clark.  Many of you know her and we all know she can talk! Up until that point in time she hadn’t realized her purpose.  Today she does and this morning as I stand here-she is standing as a witness for God in the church up the street.

So, how do we find out what our gifts are and how to use them?  Well, God has given us each other to discover, nurture and use those gifts to build of the Body of Christ.  Your Pastor, Deacons and Elders are here to help you discover your gifts.  In my experience I have been encouraged and allowed to try new things by my Pastors and church family.  One of those things has been drawing to music.    In describing the drawings, I have discovered that I love to write about God.   In writing, I have been encouraged by my church family to start a blog.  So, today I blog.  A blog is like a journal online.  In the two years that I have been blogging, I have had over 90,000 people read my blog!  That’s a whole lot of people reading about God!  I wouldn’t be doing this without all of the encouragement and nurturing of my church family.  You see, once we take that step of faith in the right direction-the rest is up to God.  All he needs from us is one little step. Then as we step again and again-he uses people to guide us and teach us and even rebuke us when we need disciplining.  If my Pastor hadn’t called me and said, “Hey Donna,  Let’s try this-…”   I wouldn’t be standing here today.

So, what I am trying to say is this:  God has gifted us with many gifts and when we use one- he will show us another.  But he can’t do that until we take that first step.  God doesn’t force anything on us and it’s up to us to move forward.  Yes, we are going to stumble and fall, but there are people who are next to you who will pick you up and dust you off and encourage you to try it again.  We are told not to live a life of fear and the verse I rely on the most as I stand here today is Philippians 4: 13 “ I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME.”  It runs consistently runs through my head as I am speaking.  So, let me encourage you to help each other discover your gifts and if you need some help-please call me!   Living life for God is an adventure-it’s like riding a rollercoaster!   We throw up our arms and we joyfully scream in glee and when go down the other side we hang on for dear life!  But we always go up and we always go down and God knows our every step, and He knows when you are going to step out!

Today I am blessed to introduce 2 young people to you.  They are stepping on faith to share their love of God with you through music.  You see, this is really what we are doing when we use our gifts.  We are sharing God’s love with the world just as He has equipped us to do.  Jesus did that too.  He shared the gifts of teaching, compassion, humility, love and eternal life with you and I.  His life was the ultimate gift and He has willingly and obediently poured it over us all.  It’s called GRACE and we must tell HIS story through our hands, feet and body.  We do this out of our love for Him.  It’s not a sacrifice, you see that’s what Jesus did.  It’s a heart thing.

A thing called love.

Please welcome Corynn & Caleb as they share God’s love through music with you.

Hillsville First United Methodist Church

WOW!  A busy week this week!   I am so excited!  Our church will be doing a special presentation of the CARDBOARD TESTIMONIES this Sunday, February 20th at 8:30 and 11 am.   You don’t want to miss it!  The choir will be singing a beautiful song at the 11 am service during this special time of testimony.  It will move you.  For those who are involved-let me just say that it has been the best thing for me and many others-it has been a release-it puts the FREE in FREEDOM back into your life.  It is a new beginning.  I have had many, many people tell me how much freer they have felt since they did it a few weeks ago at OOTBWC.  Some of these folks are coming to do it again.  God is at work!

I love our church choir and I have missed their beautiful voices!  The Godwin family has  committed to helping get OOTBWC up and running.  We all have certain jobs to do and sometimes we can’t back to the main church in time to be at the 11 am service.   Weds.  night we practiced at the main church for the cardboard testimonies and I was reminded of the love of the family of God and why I love this family so very much.  There is unity in diversity.  What I mean by that is that God brings so many unique and  different people to His table and His table is way bigger than we can ever imagine.  It extends well beyond our range of vision and there are people at that table whom we have never met.  Yet we all sit at the same table, being fed.  It’s all the same food-the Bread of Life and the water that is pure and cool and comes from an eternal source-streams of Living Water that flow from our Creator God.   As we live and move and breathe, we may change seats at the table allowing us to meet someone new or for someone to touch our lives with a breath of blessing.  It’s all in God’s plan and if we allow the Holy Spirit to move in us- then that table gets bigger and bigger and more people are fed eternally.  I saw this last night during practice.  It is really hard to explain it in words because it is a heart thing and maybe it was just me.  I don’t know.  But when I heard the choir singing and I saw how God was working out the testimonies through the song- it just took my breath away.  I saw a team of people dedicated to doing what God has called them to do outside the four walls of the church.  I saw a team of people, from all walks of life, coming inside those four walls to reach the people who will be there Sunday morning- some of whom we have never met.  God is expanding our church like never before and it is happening because of our obedience.  It’s not easy, but it certainly is fruitful!  The recipient of the fruit is GOD!  He wants all his apples in one basket!

As this is happening at our main church, a few of us will be going outside those walls and into another building down the street-but it’s not the building you might be thinking of.  It’s another church, another denomination, yet it’s the same table we sit at.   We may know some of those people or not.  But what is important is the obedience of doing what God is calling us to do.  I will be speaking and 3 of our amazing youth will be singing praise songs at the Christian Church.  All of us would like to be at the main church with all of you-but we can’t be.  Yet we all sit at the same table.  Do you see it?  That table extends from the main church all the way down main street and beyond our vision in all directions.  God has instilled a dream inside of me and that is for all the churches in Hillsville to lock arms together for Christ to beat the devil out of Carroll County.  Can we do it?  Not alone.  Is it happening?  I think it is a little at a time.  One step here, two steps there and before you know it we’ll be there.  But we can’t do it alone and we can’t do it without willing and obedient hearts.   I am so glad to be sitting at this table with all of you- people I know and I love and people I don’t know and am waiting to love.

Will you sit next to me?  I’ll share my bread and water with you…

stop compromising.

stop trading and borrowing.

stop making excuses.

stop faking it.

stop settling for less

when you can have more;

when you can have it all.

come clean. let it go.

be brave. be strong.

but have patience.

keep going till the end

because the end is all that matters anymore.

don’t waste time dying

when you could be living.

why sit on the sidelines

when you could be in the action?

stop being afraid of change

and look forward to moving ahead.

if the first step you take is in fear,

the rest will be without faith.

but if you step with faith and strength,

you won’t have to take the rest of the steps

let go of the past

and look at the future.

live with love,

not with regrets and grudges.

keep your head up,

no matter how strong the wind is.

i’d rather love with nothing

than hate with everything.

be exactly who you were meant to be.

this is about figuring that out.

this is just a test run.

this is practice.

this is the time to learn.

there’s a brighter room

just through that door.

be patient.

the time is nearing day by day.

are you ready?

Thank you Lord, for the beautiful heart you are raising up in this young woman who we are blessed to call “daughter.”   God knows the plans he has for you Corynn.  Keep looking to the Father.  We are proud to be your parents and we love you!
