Abram Journeys to Egypt
1Now the LORD said to Abram,
“Go forth from your country,
And from your relatives
And from your father’s house,
To the land which I will show you;
2And I will make you a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And so you shall be a blessing;
3And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
Aaahhhhh…..Abram! I love this man and his obedience! His love for God overwhelms my being and makes my heart sing new songs! I have learned much from this old man-who was what, 75 years old by now? Just a youngster back then when folks lived to be hundreds and hundreds of years old! The bible says ” so Abram went forth as the Lord had spoken to him…” what? no if’s, an’s or but’s? I don’t see any in the scriptures. Not only did he go-he took Sarai, Lot and all their possessions-herds, herdsmen, livestock, etc.. Oh how I wish I could be more like Abram. His faith was great and his obedience was even greater! You can’t have one without the other. Where there is faith there MUST be obedience.
Our lives can only be changed by our willingness to live a life of obedience to God. Abram did this. I didn’t say he was perfect-because he wasn’t. But he was obedient! We have to pray, seek, act and do the will of God. God yearns for us to put Him first. Did you know that? When we do this God sets us on a new path-HIS. Sometimes we don’t know the way, but we must trust in God because He does! He knows everything from beginning to end. Being faithful requires commitment and service to God first and foremost. We are asked to put off our selfish desires. Sometimes there is selfishness inside of you that you aren’t even aware of until God asks you to do something. I recently wrestled with some of my own. It wasn’t fun but it was necessary! When we wrestle with things I think that means that God is transforming us from the inside out. He knows what is best for us and we need to listen, trust and obey. Sometimes these wrestlings are small and seem insignificant, but like a car engine that has one tiny part out of place- it won’t run properly, and neither will we. God and I have spent the last several weeks putting my small parts back into place! Today I feel all shiny and new, like I have had a tune up. Thank you Lord-for never putting down your toolbox!
So, today, whatever you are wrestling with, I am praying for you to head to your prayer closet and seek out the will of God Almighty. He has all the answers. While you’re there, give thanks for Abram and his obedience. In order to do what God says we must “rise” when He calls us…
Genesis 15: 17
God said to Abram: “ARISE, walk about the land through it’s length and breadth; for I WILL give it to you.”
31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
God keeps His promises when we keep ours!
You have been blessed to be a blessing!
