” Working in His Orchard”
Colossians 1: 3-8
3-5Our prayers for you are always spilling over into thanksgivings. We can’t quit thanking God our Father and Jesus our Messiah for you! We keep getting reports on your steady faith in Christ, our Jesus, and the love you continuously extend to all Christians. The lines of purpose in your lives never grow slack, tightly tied as they are to your future in heaven, kept taut by hope. 5-8The Message is as true among you today as when you first heard it. It doesn’t diminish or weaken over time. It’s the same all over the world. The Message bears fruit and gets larger and stronger, just as it has in you. From the very first day you heard and recognized the truth of what God is doing, you’ve been hungry for more. It’s as vigorous in you now as when you learned it from our friend and close associate Epaphras. He is one reliable worker for Christ! I could always depend on him. He’s the one who told us how thoroughly love had been worked into your lives by the Spirit.
Are we spilling over with thanks?
As I read the MESSAGE version of this verse I am visually reminded of spending a summer picking apples in the orchards in Upstate NY. We’d put these sling bags over our shoulders and then climb ladders to pick the best fruit from the trees. Once we had a full bag, we’d climb back down and empty the bag into a big wooden bin. A bin that was often overflowing with ripened apples cascading all over the ground.
As I visualize this in my mind, I ask myself if my life is overflowing with the ripened fruit of thanksgiving? Or is it rotten and stinky? Do you know what rotten apples look and smell like after they have been on the ground and infested with flies? BLECH!!!!!
Our Creator God desires to hear our prayers of thanksgiving, worship and praise! So, like the faded wooden box of overflowing ripened fruit- let us honor God with our praise and thanksgiving- telling ALL about God’s great love for the world and everyone in it. Let it flow from our mouths, from our hearts, hands and feet. Let it consume the earth like a great river from heaven-flooding each and every person who it touches. Let all come to know Him through the HOPE that we have in knowing Christ Jesus as our Savior, our Rescuer, and our Friend. Let us share this hope with vigor, zest and zeal. Let us speak , move and act with the Words of Truth- the words that come from God Himself.
” Love One Another.”
