Famous Photographer wins photo contest!

lighthouse by Mom

This is the winning photo that took FIRST PLACE in the WAYNE COUNTY HISTORIC PHOTO Contest!

Can you hear the waves crashing  against the pier and feel the fine spray of Lake Ontario against your cheek?  The clouds are moody and looming in the distance like a storm is approaching.  The water is ominous. The lighthouse stands at the watch, firm, tall and unwavering in the choppy water and unpredictable summer weather of Upstate NY.  Your eye is drawn to the stark white lighthouse set against the blue gray sky.  The spray of the waves reaching over the pier leads your eye right to the lighthouse, like a directional signal.  The pier is the path that takes the lighthouse keeper safely to the place that keeps the light.  It is the light that keeps the fishermen away from the dangers of the rocky shore.  Without the light we are all doomed to live in darkness.

Jesus is our lighthouse.  Like this picture, He stands tall and firm in our lives, always ready to shine His beacon of hope through us.  We are the keepers of the light.  He has entrusted us with this job.    We must always be ready to share the light and keep it burning, in the storms of life, in the sunny days and at whatever cost it takes.

 It cost Him his life.

What are you willing to risk?

This picture also took BEST IN SHOW!

The photographer is my Mom!  My mother has been taking photographs for years and just recently she has gotten up the courage to enter them in contests.

My mother has a keen eye for getting a picture ” just so” and this one says it all!  This one catches all the senses Mom!

I can feel it, taste it, hear it, see it and smell it!   This is an amazing photo!

It leads us right to the Lighthouse…

Thanks Mom!

I love you!

I am the mom of three beautiful daughters, wife to a genius, sister to a teacher, sis-in-law to an engineer, daughter to a yankee and a rebel, and a woman chasing God. I love to read, draw and be with my family. If the reading inspires me, then I draw what I read. Almost everything I draw is based around or about Jesus Christ. I attend church at First United Methodist Hillsville. Ronnie Collins is my associate pastor, also a blogger here. I love the Lord with all my heart and I hope what you see here will inspire your heart.

  1. Donna, you are too funny [famous photographer] it does look good on here. Wow ! I hope Joyce got it right, ha ha. I am just reading this Sunday morning 6:41. Thanks for all the encouragement and compliments. Thanks to Joyce for telling me about this contest last year, so now there is no stopping me.
God and I love you and a whole lot of other people.

  2. Donna,
I forgot to tell you [to make it even more dramatic] that the day I took this picture it was a cold rainy day with about 50mph wind [we estimated] and I was leaning into a tall metal sign bolted to the pier [to keep from being sucked off the pier into the deep water and me being such a scaredy cat anyway] The wind was blowing my jeans tight around my legs and flapping to beat the band, I was getting a lot of spray on me but kept my “eye on the prize” and just kept shooting [you know how you get lost in the camera]. I must have taken at least 30 shots of the lighthouse with Dad waiting patiently nearby. He is getting used to it !
